Job Description

**Head of Buying & Merchandising - North West England - £75,000 Car Allowance & Bonus**

As Head of Buying & Merchandising, you will be responsible for the commercial performance of your department and team. You are responsible for optimising all KPIs, including sales, Bought In Margin (BIM) % to Achieved Margin (AM)/ Decision Making Gross Margin(DMGM) £, back orders, markdown and stock/stock cover, along with ensuring that the range reflects the requirements of the business in shape and size in order to meet the needs of the customer. You manage a B&M team and ensure that their focus is on achieving outstanding results for the department, commercially and professionally. As Head of Buying & Merchandising it is your responsibility to optimise the Values and Behaviours of the business, leading by example and coaching others as necessary in order to develop a focused, harmonious, forward thinking and supportive team.

The Head of Buying & Merchandising will need:

  • To be responsible for department strategy, range planning, range reviews and sign off, managing the B&M team to provide the process, reporting and content according to critical path

  • To ensure that the range proposed at selection is reflective of the business strategy and has the right mix of innovative, extraordinary and inspirational products

  • To view the range as a customer would, ensuring that the products have differentiation to our competitors and are targeted to the core customer base

  • To be responsible for day to day operation of the Buying & Merchandise team

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Knowledge of Retail Buying &/or Merchandising skills, the B&M process and what makes an effective B&M team, with recent experience in a comparable Buying and Merchandising environment along with a minimum of 7 years in a Buyer or Merchandiser role

  • Excellent strategic and range planning skills, with an ability to produce a product strategy from scratch

  • A broad knowledge of computer systems, including a WSSI type planning system

  • Experience of using and managing a team to use a WSSI style stock control/range planning system
