Head of Buying & Merchandising
As Head of Buying & Merchandising, you will be responsible for the commercial performance of your department and team. You will manage a trading team and ensure that their focus is on achieving outstanding results for the department, commercially and professionally. As Head of Buying & Merchandising it is your responsibility to optimise the values and behaviours of the business, leading by example and coaching others as necessary in order to develop a focused, harmonious, forward thinking and supportive team.
To be responsible for department strategy, range planning, range reviews and sign off, managing the trading team to provide the process, reporting and content according to critical path
To ensure that the range proposed at selection is reflective of the business strategy and has the right mix of innovative, extraordinary and inspirational products
To view the range as a customer would, ensuring that the products have differentiation to our competitors and are targeted to the core customer base
To be responsible for day to day operation of the trading team
Knowledge of Retail Buying &/or Merchandising skills, the B&M process and what makes an effective B&M team, with recent experience in a comparable Buying and Merchandising environment along with a minimum of 7 years in a Buyer or Merchandiser role
Excellent strategic and range planning skills, with an ability to produce a product strategy from scratch
A broad knowledge of computer systems, including a WSSI type planning system
Experience of using and managing a team to use a WSSI style stock control/range planning system
